DMCA Policy & Fair Use Notice
Last updated: June 17, 2026
Our Commitment to Copyright Compliance
At Movies.sy, we take intellectual property rights seriously. We are committed to complying with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and respecting the rights of content creators, studios, and copyright holders worldwide. We understand that creating movies and television shows requires immense talent, effort, and financial investment, and we believe that creators deserve to be recognized and compensated for their work.
However, we also believe in the principles of fair use, free access to information, and the transformative nature of content aggregation and indexing. Our platform operates as a search and discovery service that helps users find publicly available content. We do not host, upload, or store any video files on our servers. All streaming content is provided by third-party sources over which we have no direct control.
Understanding Fair Use Before Submitting a Report
Before submitting a DMCA takedown notice, we strongly encourage copyright holders and their representatives to carefully consider whether the use of their content on our platform falls under the doctrine of fair use. Fair use is a legal principle that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders under specific circumstances. This doctrine is essential to preserving freedom of expression, enabling commentary, criticism, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
Under United States copyright law and the laws of many other jurisdictions, fair use is determined by evaluating four key factors:
- Purpose and Character of the Use: Is the use transformative? Does it add new meaning, expression, or message to the original work? Our platform serves as an indexing and discovery tool that does not reproduce the original work in its entirety but rather directs users to third-party sources. This transformative purpose weighs in favor of fair use.
- Nature of the Copyrighted Work: Is the work factual or fictional? Published or unpublished? While we index both types of content, the nature of the work is just one factor in the fair use analysis.
- Amount and Substantiality of the Portion Used: We do not reproduce, host, or distribute full copies of copyrighted works. Our platform provides metadata, descriptions, and links — minimal amounts of information necessary for discovery. This limited use supports a fair use finding.
- Effect on the Potential Market: Does the use harm the market for the original work? Our platform does not replace the original work or deprive rights holders of revenue. Users who discover content through our platform may subsequently purchase, rent, or subscribe to legitimate services to support the creators. In many cases, our service actually drives additional traffic and awareness to content that might otherwise remain undiscovered.
We respectfully ask that copyright holders and their agents conduct a thorough fair use analysis before submitting a DMCA notice. False or misleading DMCA claims can have serious legal consequences and may constitute perjury under federal law. We reserve the right to challenge improper takedown notices and to seek legal remedies against those who abuse the DMCA process.
How Our Platform Operates
Movies.sy functions as an indexing and aggregation service, similar in principle to search engines like Google or Bing. We crawl, index, and organize publicly available metadata about movies and television shows, including titles, descriptions, release dates, cast information, ratings, and poster imagery. When a user clicks on a title, our platform redirects them to third-party streaming sources that are independently hosted and operated.
We do not:
- Host, store, upload, or transmit any video content on our servers
- Reproduce, distribute, or display copyrighted audiovisual works in their entirety
- Control, monitor, or manage the content available on third-party streaming platforms
- Profit directly from the streaming or distribution of copyrighted content
- Remove or alter any digital rights management (DRM) protections
Because we do not host the actual content, our role in the content ecosystem is analogous to that of a directory or search engine. We provide information about where content might be found, but we do not provide the content itself. This distinction is critical under both copyright law and the safe harbor provisions of the DMCA.
Submitting a DMCA Takedown Notice
If, after careful consideration, you believe that content linked through our platform infringes your copyright and does not constitute fair use, you may submit a DMCA takedown notice. To ensure that your notice is processed promptly and accurately, please include the following information:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed (or, if multiple works are covered by a single notice, a representative list of such works)
- Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity, and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate the material on our platform
- Your contact information, including your address, telephone number, and email address
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner

- Acknowledge receipt of your notice within 48 hours
- Review the notice for completeness and accuracy
- Conduct an internal fair use assessment when appropriate
- Remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing material if we determine that the complaint is valid
- Notify the user who submitted or linked to the material, if identifiable
- Document the takedown for our records and for legal compliance purposes
We aim to process all legitimate DMCA notices within 5-7 business days. If your notice is incomplete or lacks required information, we may request additional documentation before proceeding.
Counter-Notification Procedure

Your counter-notification must include your contact information, identification of the removed material, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed by mistake or misidentification, and consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court in your district. Upon receipt of a valid counter-notification, we may restore the material after a period of 10-14 business days unless the original complainant files a court action.
Repeat Infringer Policy
In accordance with the DMCA and our commitment to respecting intellectual property rights, we maintain a policy of terminating the accounts of repeat infringers where applicable. While our platform does not require user accounts for basic streaming access, we cooperate with rights holders and law enforcement to address persistent infringement issues.
